The object detail such as furniture appliances etc were decent to good. There are times where between the rain storm going on outside the creaky floor boards and the music that I expected things to take a grim turn. One thing I will also mention is that, while the game is not a horror game, it did a great job having some creepy horror vibes at times. The music is also great for the time period. It takes place in 1995 and I can say they hit on many things I remember doing back then. The game really nails the nostalgia of the 90’s well. It is a little convoluted at times as you will have to start finding wall panels to tear off and secret passages, I can’t imagine the cleanup after I was done searching. You will have to find combinations to many locks as well as keys. I liked the form of many of the clues such as crumpled pieces of paper diaries letters etc. You can also learn a lot about your parents lives and that of your late uncle if you dig around enough. When you find certain ones it triggers a audio journal from your sister. You have to explore the house trying to find clues. Your parents are also not home but that is more of a side story.

You arrive home after catching a late flight to an empty house and trying to figure out where your sister is. It will be tough to talk a lot about the plot of Gone Home without spoiling it so I will simply say I enjoyed the story and liked how it was presented. When it first came out it ran horribly on Linux and happily I can say that is no longer the case. Gone Home has come a long way since it was released. I can only recommend a game so much when it is such a short but sweet experience so i'll end on this: Whether or not you believe this is a "boring walking sim" or an "indie masterpiece", like all games, it deserves a try and I believe this game has a ton to say with very few words spoken. I truly could feel the passion of the developers in every moment i played and for me that is an achievement in itself. Your enjoyment of this type of game is of course subjective, however, I do genuinely think that what is here, is well written, realised and really endearing and heartfelt. For me, from the beginning I had gotten the idea of what was going on and as the pieces fell into place it all made sense.Īs a walking sim type game, this will not interest everyone, but if you at all enjoy these types of games i really believe you should give this game a shot. Not once throughout the 2 hour play-through did i ever think that there was some supernatural twist on the way, or that there was going to be some super dark undertones throughout.

I see many stories of people feeling disappointed by the overall payoff, but being honest, i don't think this is the games fault at all. Personally, as someone knowing nothing about the narrative prior to playing and going in almost totally blind, I found myself being really moved by the story on display here.
